Georgia Standards of Excellence
Periodically the first grade team will send home curriculum notes that will describe the skills and standards. I will also send home a weekly newsletter that will list the skills of the week.
Georgia is no longer following Common Core. We are now following the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE's). The standards and concepts are very similar to Common Core and in some cases identical. If you would like information about the GSE's, please visit the websites below. The standards will inform you of the skills we will cover this year. If you have any questions regarding the standards or skills, please let me know.

Reading
I implement Guided Reading and Daily 5 in my classroom. I will also use Orton Gillingham phonics instruction methodology, shared reading strategies, shared and interactive writing strategies, and level instructional texts to meet the needs of all students. These reading programs are aligned with Fulton County's Balanced Literacy Model in which there is an integration of literacy across the curriculum. This is designed to allow students to become independent thinkers and learners by providing all the skills needed to be life long learners!
